Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the 2022 fourth quarter edition of The Tower, the IHS group-wide internal newsletter.
We ended the final quarter of 2022 in a strong position thanks to your hard work and commitment. 2022 was a historic marker for IHS as we completed our first full year as a publicly listed company and grew our tower portfolio to nearly 40,000, largely due to our acquisitions in Brazil and South Africa.
As a reminder, a key achievement this quarter was the publication of our Carbon Reduction Roadmap. This provides a comprehensive strategy for decreasing our emissions and includes a goal to reduce the Scope 1 and Scope 2 kilowatt-hour emissions intensity of our tower portfolio by approximately 50% by 2030. This is a key step in our carbon reduction journey, and by setting tangible emissions targets we aim to honor an important commitment to protect the environments in which we operate.
In conjunction, we revised our corporate values and took the opportunity to launch a new fifth Sustainability value that focuses on health and safety, security, and the environment, to ensure that these topics are further embedded throughout IHS. Our values of Customer focus, Innovation, Integrity, Boldness, and Sustainability serve as our guiding principles that help foster teamwork and ensure we achieve our shared business goals.
As covered in this newsletter’s Group Finance and Investor Relations sections, this quarter we entered into a new $600 million three-year bullet-term loan and reported our third quarter earnings and 30.2% revenue increase in November.
I was proud to see three IHS entities mark significant anniversaries. IHS Cameroon and IHS Côte d’Ivoire celebrated ten-years of operation while I-Systems marked their one-year anniversary. All three were significant; Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire because they helped paved the way for further African expansion, and I-Systems as a testament to the depth and breadth of the solutions we offer our customers.
We continued to invest in our people and concluded the awarding of the Frontline Workers Initiative second student cohort. For the 2022/23 academic year, IHS will be covering the full cost of 18 students’ higher education, and I am excited to see how our beneficiaries’ academic careers develop. I remain committed to this initiative and all talent development programs at IHS. This year also marked the fifth anniversary of the IHS Academy, which today offers over 12,000 courses. It is an excellent resource designed to support your professional development, however, please do reach out to your local HR team if you have additional training needs in 2023.
As noted in my final 2022 message, we continue to strive to increase the information we share so that you all feel connected within the IHS community. I hope you found our first earnings Town Hall useful and informative, and enjoyed listening to our first internal podcast – IHS Connected.
I trust you are now returning from your holidays refreshed and ready to start another exciting year at IHS.
